The
College:
Founded in 1836, Emory & Henry is the oldest college in Southwest Virginia. It is also one of few colleges in the South
to have operated more than 160 years under the same name and with the same affiliation: the United Methodist Church. Students complete a required
liberal arts core curriculum that spans four years and emphasizes a global perspective on history, literature, and culture. Student participation
is promoted through writing assignments, discussion, and an active approach to thinking and reasoning. Emory & Henry enrolls more than
1,000 students, The student body is approximately 50% male and 50% female.
Currently, more than 70 student organizations are active on Emory &
Henry's campus. On any given day, you're likely to find at least one club meeting or event taking place, if not more. Hikes on the Virginia
Creeper Trail. A community service project in Emory or nearby Abingdon. A football game at the stadium (sure to draw big crowds). And if you
can't find something you're looking for, you'll surely find other people who share your interests. Start a new tradition!
