The
College:
Millsaps was founded in 1890 by the Methodist Church. The philanthropy of Major Reuben Webster Millsaps and other Methodist
leaders in Mississippi enabled the College to open two years later on what was then the outskirts of Jackson. The beginnings were modest:
two buildings, 149 students, and five instructors. Over a hundred years later, Millsaps has an enrollment of approximately 1,300 students
and a faculty and staff of over 300. The beautiful 100-acre campus is now located in the heart of down town Jackson. Recognized by several
national organizations, the college continues to offer a comprehensive liberal arts education to students from over 30 states and several
foreign countries.
While the academic experience at Millsaps is our reason for being, our student
life activities are how Millsaps develops well-rounded graduates who appreciate all that life has to offer. Whatever your extracurricular
interest, you can pursue it at Millsaps. On campus, you'll want to check out our new physical activities center, career center, plaza and
college center. These distinctive additions to our campus have dramatically increased the opportunities for student, faculty, and staff interaction.
