The College:
Hillsdale College is an independent, nonsectarian institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings" resulting from civil and religious liberty and "believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings." It pursues the stated object of the founders: "to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary and scientific education" outstanding among American colleges "and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils."

Hillsdale is a selective, coeducational college of liberal arts for approximately 1,200 students. Fully accredited, it graduates students with the degree of bachelor of arts or bachelor of science and prepares them for graduate study, for professional schools, for teaching and for many vocational and cultural pursuits. Hillsdale's founders opened the doors to all, regardless of race or religion, in 1844. Saturday football games, basketball games, theater performances, concerts, intramural championships, movies, late-night caffeine runs, dances and any number of social gatherings define the time not spent studying or in the classroom. Your Hillsdale experience is made complete with these moments. Hillsdale College's clubs, honoraries, nationally chartered fraternities and sororities along with the varsity and intramural athletic programs, fine arts programs, and nationally ranked debate team, provide a wide range of opportunities for our students.
