The College:
Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America (ELCA) owned and operated by the Central States Synod and the Arkansas/Oklahoma Synod of the ELCA. The primary focus of Bethany College
is service to traditional age students in a residential setting by offering liberal arts-based degree programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts
degree. Bethany College offers a wide range of professional and liberal arts
majors. These are built on solid base of common experience that we call our General Education Program. A new and dramatically improved version
is being implemented this fall. The five components of the General Education Program are communication and critical thinking skills, exposure
to diverse modes of inquiry, integrating the modes of inquiry, our role as citizens in a global community, and the Christian tradition and
its relation to other world religions.
Bethany College is a community of faith and creative learning where students
can develop their potential through a variety of experiences in the liberal arts and sciences. Curricular and cocurricular programs and activities
enable students to acquire knowledge, communicate, think critically, lead, act responsibly and serve others. Students also have opportunities
to enhance their understanding of human diversity, develop emotional and personal independence, clarify values, and grow in faith. The Bethany
College community is sustained and nourished by the Christian faith, particularly the Lutheran tradition.
